solar physics researcher

software engineer

I'm an undergraduate researcher at the University of Sheffield, currently developing PERSICA: a method and library for detection, characterisation, and tracking of solar vortices, from intensity sequences alone. It brings together solar physics, computer vision, and high-performance computing.

Ask about it. ↗

Outside research, I build full-stack applications and the tools to deploy and maintain the services I run.

With my MComp in Computer Science due in 2027, I'm writing up PERSICA for publication and pursuing PhD opportunities in numerical modelling of the solar atmosphere.

Main projects

PERSICA

I’m developing PERSICA to detect, characterise and track solar vortices from intensity movies alone.

The method examines directional slices through an image sequence, looking for rotationally coherent Lagrangian structures. I combine this evidence to identify candidate regions and link them across time windows.

Planned for release as a software library and paper.

Timing Matters

A collaborative AI-safety project investigating how training choices affect whether agents complete tasks while respecting safety obligations.

I design reward functions and build training pipelines for supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning. I also design experiments and evaluate agent behaviour.
